OK The computer decided to have a heart attack and kill my previous note that, I will add, was finished. After many deep breaths and a sleepless night (ok exaggeration) I will try it again and succeed.
Germany has been wonderful so far. The relatives once again have been extremely hospitable. Feeding me and liquoring me, taking me out sight seeing. With the one exception.
My Omsi (grand ma ma) And uncle Martin were having some difficulties finding me at the airport. I arrived at 5 am and waited for 3 hours (good thing I didn't just have a 14 hour flight across the Atlantic)(short story cheep ticket). At approximately 8:30 I heard "would Rebecca South please come to information". I decided to forgive them because the Frankfurt airport is much to big to find one person annnnd..... They would be the ones who feed me and give me a place to sleep for the next week. So we had a good laugh.
On my First day I went dancing with Omi. No, real Dance lessons. The average age was 75 but with me there I think average age plummeted to 65. It was very entertaining. I can tell you I was not the best. We danced for 2 hours had tea and cake then danced for another hour. I'll confess that when I got home I had a nap which is terrible because one lady was 96. I do have jet leg on my side. My body still thinks that I am in 5 hours ago.
Peter and Omsi took me sightseeing on Friday which turned out to be an absolutely stunning day all and all. We visited 2 castle one being the highlight. Unfortunately I can not remember the name. I know ,some highlight eh?. But I do know that it was one town past Bad Nauheim. Some fun facts for you--- Elvis presly was stationed in Bad Nauheim in 1977 . That's not the cool part, he was also stationed In Friedburg where my pops was. (Elvis and I are practically related)
Last night Martin took me to experience some true German Culture. It was great! way too many people and all dressed in traditional cloths. It was a beer festival funny enough Martin and I made it into the one and only WINE tent. I mean I love wine but the beer drinkers know how to sing. After convincing Martin that it is not a good idea to bribe security guards that are 3 times the size of you, we settled with the wine tent. There were 8 beer tents and each one had about 2 thousand people. Shocking enough they wer all full at 15:00. As the evening progressed the wine tent became more interesting. I learned the words and actions to many traditional German songs. But my all time favourite was
" Heyyy heyy babe who ha I wanna a knoww ooo ooo will you be my girl"
but more like....
"Ehhhh ehhhh bebe uuuu ahhhh I vonnna knoww ooo oooo vill you be ma girl"
I'm sure I sounded much the same in my attempts with the German songs. All I can say at the end of the night everyone was merry, clinking, drinking, singing and dancing the Polonaise which was my favorite part.
Next on whats-in-it-becca

Actualy Elvis was stationed in Friedberg Ray Barracks around 1967 not 1977. He met Priscilla while she was living in Bad Nauheim which is right next to Friedberg and Ray Barracks. Shawn
ReplyDeleteBecca, if you are travelling around England & need contacts let me know & I will see who I know in that area, if any one.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy.
Derek
Beer drinkers might start the party with a big bang but I bet it'll be the wine drinkers that will persevere!
ReplyDelete"Ein Prosit der Gemuetlichkeit" - hope you learned that in the tent.
